It's been a busy few months at the Yarn Spinners Studio with some wonderful results! There have been felted slippers to keep the winter chill off, Junko and Enri have been spinning some wonderful yarn and knitting some beautiful creations. Plently of knitting, spinning and felting to keep us busy.

There were some beautiful seasonal creations with Aideen and her sisters making beautiful bunting with felt and some fun drop in sessions where we made impromtu felt birds and winter angels. Here's Christina making her creation fly :)

Christina had a wonderful day documenting the studios progress with local film maker, Maria Mulhall.
''Lovely morning chatting with Bernie Crampsey (Crafts), Claire Claire Thompson Gilmour and Maria Mulhall learning about Aran knits, and sharing stories about age-old skills taught from generation to generation...a wonderful insight into the enduring sense of warmth and contentment felt at working with mothers and grandmothers in community, to make something, to learn from watching them DO. Beautiful words and inspiring thoughts..Thank you for sharing your time and spirit with us.''
There's plenty more to come so drop into the studio on Wednesdays to get to grips with some fibre fun and meet some wonderful people.

A hive of activity.

Things are all go for the Yarn Spinners. We've been busy spinning wool and knitting items for the Christmas markets and getting prepared for A Handmade Christmas, our course of workshops dedicated to making wonderful wool creations in time for the festive season.

Handmade Christmas

Four inspiring wool craft sessions to get you in the Christmas mood and give you a head start with pressies

and decorations for the Big Day! For only twenty euro per person you will be able to create at least three

Christmas creations from a beautiful selection of local and guest wool fibres. Find out how easy and satisfying

it is to work with wool. Children welcome.

Taking place in The Yarn Spinners Studio, Clonmany Market House on Thursday from 6.00pm until 9.00pm.

Come along and join in the wooly fun. You can give your creations away as presents while giving yourself the

gift of a craft (or just keep them for yourself, we won't judge) :)

It's Launch time!

Hi all! Just a wee reminder to get your lovely selves down to Clonmany Market House tomorrow from 11am onwards. We've an action packed day planned and it'd be amazing to have as many people as possible there to get the ball rolling. Spinning, knitting, wooly chat and tea and buns.

Sure what more could you ask for of a Saturday?

Launch Looming (pun alert)

We're getting terribly excited in the lead up to the Launch this Saturday. The studio will be buzzing!
There'll be free spinning lessons on all of our wheels and also on the drop spindle. You can also check out some of the spinning that's been happening in the studio over the last couple of weeks. We've got some beautiful local wool spun up and ply-ed so if you fancy trying your hand at knitting with local wool you're more than welcome. We were also lucky enough to try out spinning with some local alpaca fleece and it's just beautiful; so soft and delicate. There's even some soya spun up and waiting to be ply-ed with some charcoal bamboo tops. Yummy.

There'll be some stitching on the couch with the Yarn Spinners Knitting Circle so bring your projects and get settled in with a cuppa and your needles or come along for a lesson in picking up your first stitch on knitting needles or even a crochet hook. We're happy to take beginners and get them hooked (pun intended, sorry).

Hope to see you all there!

Woolly Beginnings

Greetings!
I thought we might as well start blogging our woolly adventures so you can all see what we're up to in the studio in the run up to the launch on the 15th of Oct.
So far we've got the space together and have been happily spinning away for a couple of weeks. There are currently three spinning wheels set up in the space for people to try their hand at: the lovely Ashford that has been such a stalwart in our endeavors so far, the Kromski Mazurka and a wonderful wheel made from recycled water pipe and wood. The place is rapidly filling up with all sorts of local wool from Suffolk and Texel to some amazingly soft alpaca. It's been such fun trying our hand at all these different types of fibre.
Currently we're open three days a week, Monday, Wednesday and Saturday and everyone is welcome to drop in and spin/knit/drink tea with us. See you at the Market House, Clonmany some day soon :)
